The 2020 Cadillac XT6 sits handsomely in my driveway with its sharply creased headlamps and muscular grill. But more than its good looks, what I need is the 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. I don’t have power or internet after TS Isaias, and like all GM vehicles, this “mid-size-plus” crossover does.

I easily climb in, appreciating cocoa leather seats complemented by a black dash. The V-6 engine roars to life by push-button start. My phone pairs via the nifty NFC function, hooking into the hotspot, and I finally check my email and notifications.

Once caught up, I ease out onto my debris-strewn street, impressed with the variety of camera angles in the 8” display. Weaving through town, surveying extensive damage, the XT6’s steering and braking responds promptly on command, belying its size. This 7-seat SUV offers plenty of visibility and ground clearance, and the enormous sunroof lets in soothing sunshine.

Retrieving my sister and her family from JFK, the Cadillac XT6 readily absorbs four people and several large suitcases. It’s quiet on the highway as we zoom towards her powerless home, charging devices and checking online along the way. This feature-laden, family-friendly hotspot provides an island of calm after that storm.
