The 2020 Subaru Outback marks the sixth generation of this rugged family wagon. This isn’t a refined, elegant vehicle. It’s tough, capable, and ready for the rigors of family life. Whether it’s the muddy paws of the family dog or a child’s sticky fingers, the Outback is good to go.
The interior is comfortable and spacious with room for five and there’s up to 32.5 cubic feet for cargo behind the rear seats. Flip those seats down for up to 72.5 cubic feet of cargo space and, if you need even more room, the Outback can tow up to 3,500 pounds properly equipped.
There’s standard all-wheel drive with 8.7 inches of ground clearance to tackle the route less travelled with standard X-Mode to optimize the system on more challenging terrain. EyeSight Driver Assist technology with a suite of advanced safety features is also standard and there’s a massive 11.6-inch tablet-style infotainment screen on all but the base trim.
The Onyx Edition XT trim we drove featured the new 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and made short work of highway merges. The 2020 Subaru Outback is tough enough for family adventures with a responsive engine that makes the trip part of the fun.
