The 2019 Lexus NX 300 F Sport is a well-styled, well-equipped 5-passenger luxury crossover. For smaller households, it's a good alternative to the family-oriented RX.

The F Sport Premium is tricked out with Lexus Safety System +, comfortable heated and cooled bolstered seats, and a modern interior. But the remote touch pad was difficult to use, and since Lexus doesn't support Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, I wasn't able to fully utilize the technology offered. It was inexplicably difficult to get the radio to tune using voice recognition.

I enjoyed driving the NX 300, with its sporty seats, responsive steering, and stiff suspension, especially in "Sport" mode, which was good in the twisties but not so good on rough roads. The six-speed tranny was a welcome relief from CVTs, but the brakes were squishy.

The “eco” mode increased fuel economy but took away some of the fun. “Normal” mode provided a good balance of performance.

"Performance” doesn’t mean the NX is going to win any races, but it serves as a solid, comfortable daily driver. If you’re in the market for a compact luxury crossover and don’t mind some technology interface challenges, the NX 300 should be on your list.
