If achieving hyper miler status is your game, the 2020 Toyota Prius is for you. If you want power seats and an infotainment system you like, look elsewhere. But that’s me. Frequent readers know how cranky I make infotainment systems with my non-iOs phone and preference for Android Auto.

Setting aside Toyota’s frustrating Entune system, there’s a sense of comfort and assurance in the Prius, with its long-standing reputation as a durable, reliable, fuel-sipping workhorse and AWD is a welcome addition. The 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine with CVT is ideal for in-town traffic and adequate for highway acceleration, especially in Power mode, one of three modes available.

The interior features a wide, clean, sweeping dash, a 7” integrated touchscreen, and well-placed function keys on the steering wheel, making the Prius easy to get to know. Spring for the $800 Advanced Tech package for useful features including HUD.

Over 90 miles of combined driving in hot summer weather, I averaged an excellent 52.4 MPG, in line with estimates. There’s a lot to like about the Prius, but there’s also a lot of competition in this space, including the Toyota RAV-4 hybrid and Hyundai Sonata. Shop around, especially if you’re an Android user.
