Trucks are ideal for getting work done with massive payloads and tow ratings. While that’s all good, not everyone needs a full-size truck with mind-blowing numbers. The 2020 Ford Ranger offers the capability and versatility of a pickup in a reduced size.

Sometimes smaller is better. If you live in a city where parking spaces are tight and streets are congested, a full-size truck is not your friend. The Ford Ranger, however, can handle the limited confines of a city with aplomb.

It can also whisk you far away from the concrete jungle with genuine off-road chops. There’s available four-wheel drive and the FX4 package features off-road shocks and tires, an electronic-locking rear differential, and skid plates for added protection.

A 2.3-liter engine with 270 horsepower paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission easily does the work of getting the Ranger up to speed. The ride is comfortable and level for driver and passenger, but the Lariat with the FX4 package does show its preference for off-roading. Hit a pothole and while not immediately jarring, be ready for the bounce that follows.

The 2020 Ford Ranger offers the perks of truck life in a city-sized package.
