The 2019 Fiat 124 Spider is a rear-wheel-drive two-door old-school sports car made for long weekend wanderings and spicing up a slogging commute. The 124’s Abarth edition further emphasizes that driving focus with a 164-horsepower, 1.4-liter turbo engine and a six-speed manual or (if you must, but please don't) automatic transmission.
Abarth offers a sporty, responsive driving experience with enthusiasts-oriented equipment including front and rear Bilstein sport suspension, mechanical limited-slip differential, front strut tower bar, Sport Mode selector, and sport-tuned chrome quad-tip exhaust with the world-renowned Abarth sound. The cloth convertible roof is an easy manual fold down.
The 124’s interior is well appointed, featuring Abarth-specific goodies like heated black leather and microfiber sport seats, and red and gray accents. A 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth streaming audio and voice command, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob complete the amenities.
The Fiat 124 is based on the Mazda MX-5 Miata, but throwback styling cues sets it apart, and Fiat invested in extra sound-deadening measures and bespoke materials. While the Miata may have better reliability numbers, the Abarth experience is exclusive to FIAT.
It's just non-stop fun, the absolute antithesis of autonomous mobility and oversized SUVs dominating the market today.
