Ingress and egress are effortless, even for my petite stature, and finding a comfortable seating position is straightforward. Large windows afford broad visibility with the drive height benefiting from nearly 9” of ground clearance.
Quality materials grace the Subaru Ascent’s cabin with the chocolate exterior and vanilla interior a delicious if impractical choice for a family or wearer of dark denim. The doors thunk when closing, and switches and levers are weighty. Cargo room is plentiful even with all the seats up.
On the road, the Subaru Ascent is a durable, well-balanced vehicle, with a sure-footed feel thanks in part to standard AWD and a quiet, well-insulated cabin. Road noise is kept to a minimum, even riding on 20” tires. The CVT engine complains on aggressive uphills and can shift too much on the descent, but overall acceleration is excellent for entering the highway or popping away from a stoplight.

Lexus is expanding beyond the road, collaborating with Wisconsin-based Marquis Yachts LLC to launch the flybridge cruiser 65-foot LY650. The LY650 uses a highly rigid composite hull combining carbon-fiber (CRFP) and glass (GFRP) reinforced plastic. A distinctive two-tone paint is available, highlighting the stunning, sleek exterior.
The gorgeous curves outside are reiterated inside. The magnificent interior is designed by Italians Nuvolari+Lenard, inspired by omotenashi, the Japanese hospitality that “anticipates and fulfills people’s needs,” per Lexus. Sweeping arcs and subtle Lexus “L” shapes run throughout the “interior real estate,” as Dan Lenard told me. The bow features a clever table and seating, ideal for entertaining and cruising the Intercoastal.
Marine-friendly Ultraleather textiles, glossy wood accents, and bright chrome combine with strategic lighting, providing a beautiful interior layout of dual captain’s seats, two sofas, and three elegant below-deck berths and heads with 6’6” headroom.
An espresso machine and wine fridge are tucked mid-stair, perfect for late-night drinks or early morning coffee.
