The midsize XT5 crossover (and its predecessor SRX) is Cadillac’s best-selling nameplate by a wide margin since 2010. Heading into year four of its current life cycle, the XT5 is updated to stay competitive in the marketplace.
Cadillac is shifting the XT5 to the “Y” trim packaging available on the rest of the lineup. From the entry level Luxury trim, XT5s branch off into Premium Luxury and Sport trims. The differences are visual with the Premium Luxury getting bright metallic trim around the grille and side glass and a variety of real wood inside. The Sport swaps this for gloss black and carbon fiber respectively. The Sport gets more aggressive tuning of steering and throttle response and a twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system with torque vectoring. Platinum goes from a separate trim level to a package available on either trim.
Formerly extra cost options like LED headlamps and a range of driver assist features follow the trend of going standard. The most notable mechanical change is the added availability of GM’s latest 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as the standard engine while the 3.6-liter V6 remains optional. The XT5 gets a new center console rotary controller with jog function, controlling the CUE infotainment system.
